My 2000s PC

My choices in this magazine project were largely influenced by online culture and the anti-design I gravitated toward in print magazines. My initial inspiration was the 2022 Robert Pattinson GQ feature by Keir Novesky, which allowed me to see print publication as something that could push the boundaries and be very expressive. Cult classic magazine utilizes a large amount of anti-design in their story layouts and covers. I frequently referenced their page layouts and spacing when deciding how to compose my magazine.

A technique I used in the process of making this magazine was to use AI-generated imagery as the backdrops for my layouts. This technique was much faster than creating gradients and imagery wholly on my own, and it allowed me to impart a unique and entirely digital aesthetic to my compositions. I cut out all the images I used for the articles and cover compositions digitally to give them a rough, hand-touched feel. All the articles I used were from artists that have a large online presence. Font choices vary throughout the magazine to reflect the feel and style of the articles they were used for. In the end, this magazine project perfectly reflects the aesthetic I was aiming for.
